COMMITTEE
We need more members for the committee. Please think about this, we meet bi-monthly on the third Thursday of odd months i.e, January March etc at 7.30pm in Wellingborough.
This is not written in stone, we are able to change. Please contact any committee member.

The Northants branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association holds open meetings:
  • To bring together people living with MND, their carers, relatives and friends, for support and friendship. Past carers and anyone who wishes to support the Branch are also welcome.

  • There is generally a speaker at each meeting. Subjects cover MND eg about care, research or subjects or demonstrations totally unrelated to MND, eg about a local attraction. Refreshments are served, free of charge and there is a fundraising raffle. The atmosphere is informal and friendly.

  • The Chair of the Branch introduces the meetings with announcements about future fundraising events and any other relevant information. It also gives her the opportunity to welcome anyone who has raised funds for the Branch in order to thank them.

  • Meetings are held at St Matthews Parish Centre, The Drive, Northampton NN1 4RY.

  • They are held bi-monthly on the second Sundays of February, April (the AGM), June August, October (sale of Christmas cards) and December (Christmas party).

  • Meetings run from 2.30pm until 4.30pm. The only exception is the December Christmas party, which starts at 1.30pm and finishes at 5.30pm. This is the only meeting where there is a charge for refreshments. Numbers are required, in advance, as a buffet lunch is provided by an outside caterer.

For Pete’s Sake

See article “Freedom to Sail” in local news

Peter Davies was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in December 2007, he died in August 2009. During the latter part of his illness he was confined to a wheelchair which necessitated the use of a specially adapted vehicle.

Due to the fact that Peter was registered disabled after his 65th birthday, he was precluded from the Motability Scheme. He was very fortunate in that friends offered him the use of their vehicle which was not in everyday use; this proved to be his lifeline and enabled him to partake in his great passion of sailing with Sailability at Pitsford Reservoir, Northampton, as well as to go out to numerous events with friends and family.

To try and help others who find themselves in a similar situation, his wife Priscilla and an old friend of Peter’s have taken on the challenge of walking the 192 mile Coast to Coast Walk starting on 18th June to raise funds for the benefit of people living with MND in the Northants Branch area, so that they are able to be as mobile as possible.

If you wish to help in anyway, or sponsor Priscilla for this event please contact either Priscilla via email at: priscilla.davies1@talktalk.net or Kate Inchley on (01933) 667616

Machu Pichu Expo (Your support requested!!!)

A group of friends from Northamptonshire are in the process of fundraising for the MND Association. In order to support their trek to Machu Picchu in 2012, they began their fundraising in May, and have so far held two successful events across the county (a fete raising nearly £1500, and a Viola recital raising nearly £600).

So far along with family, friends and Corporate sponsorship the group have raised almost £2500, a fantastic start. Three of the group are currently biking the distance of Northampton to Machu Picchu (more than 6,000 miles) in order to raise greater awareness and more money.
