Carers Forum

FAMILY, CARERS AND FRIENDS FORUM was started in February 2006:
  • To support the family, Carers and Friends of people living with Motor Neurone Disease, which is a rapidly progressing neurological disease with an expected life span of just 2-5 years. Also to give them time away (albeit a short while) from their responsibilities.

  • To provide information on MND using speakers from the local Therapy teams. Also by bringing together carers, family and friends to talk and share experiences in a 'safe' environment, it is hoped they will feel less isolated and more supported. There are Association Visitors on hand to deal with any queries and give support. On occasion, the Regional Care Development Advisor (from National Office) also attends.

  • It is held at the Callistherapy Centre, 18 Oxford Street, Wellingborough NN8 4HY

  • Meetings are held bi-monthly, on the third Monday of February, April, June, August, October and December from 1.45 to 3.45pm.

  • Dates for the Carers Forum Meetings

There are no meetings or events planned for the time being.

Family and Friends Social Afternoon

Friday 4 December 2010

Following on the success of the first ‘Family and Friends’ social meeting back in July 2009, a second event was planned with a Christmas slant.

For a number of reasons, only eight people were able to accept the invitation. The Reverend Dr John Smith, Patron of the Branch was also invited and he and his wife, Anne, were able to attend. In view of this smaller number of people, it was decided that it would be held in June’s home rather than Ecton Village Hall, which was considered to be too big.

As before, the afternoon was organised by Association Visitors (AVs) – Jean, Jenny, Joan and June with help from Rachel Boothman, Regional Care Development Adviser.

The afternoon proved to be a great success, particularly because the guests, who included three people living with MND, had previously met. Mulled wine was served on arrival, which proved to be popular! There was a lot of laughter and chat, interrupted only by an afternoon Christmas tea, (prepared by the AVs) including sandwiches, savories, mince pies and a big chocolate cake! Committee member, Margaret was on hand to help with the clearing up and this was much appreciated.
